Oral Hygiene & Teeth Whitening

Perfectly clean teeth and a radiant white smile

Professional care to protect your teeth and gums.

Many people only see a dentist when something is already wrong. The goal of the Foxxi Dental Clinic prevention programme is to make sure it never gets that far. Professional oral hygiene treatment is not just a matter of aesthetics: tartar is the number one cause of gingivitis and periodontal disease. Our dental hygienists use state-of-the-art equipment to remove deposits, so you leave with fresh breath and healthy gums. And if, beyond health, your goal is a dazzling white smile, our premium teeth whitening procedures will make your smile even more beautiful.

What does the dental hygiene treatment involve?

  1. Assessment: We examine the condition of your gums, the extent of tartar build-up and your brushing habits.
  2. Ultrasonic cleaning (Scaling): Using a special instrument, we vibrate the hard tartar off from above and below the gum line, without damaging the enamel.
  3. Airflow (Air polishing): A high-pressure mixture of water and cleaning powder removes surface stains (traces of coffee, tea and smoking).
  4. Polishing: We polish the tooth surfaces smooth, as plaque finds it much harder to re-attach to a smooth surface.
  5. Advice: We show you the correct brushing technique and how to use dental floss and interdental brushes.

A radiant smile: Teeth whitening options

After professional tartar removal and polishing, your teeth regain their natural, clean colour. If, however, you are after an even whiter, more radiant shade, we recommend our safe and effective teeth whitening procedures. Important: a recent dental hygiene treatment is always a prerequisite for teeth whitening!

In-office teeth whitening (Instant, dramatic results)

The ideal choice if you want fast, brilliantly white results (e.g. before a wedding or an important event). During the treatment we protect your gums with a special material, then apply a high-concentration professional whitening gel to your teeth. In about 1 hour, your teeth can become several shades lighter.

The retention phase after orthodontic treatment serves to stabilise the achieved result

At-home teeth whitening (Gradual, long-lasting solution)

We take a digital impression of your teeth, based on which the dental laboratory creates a thin, comfortable, fully customised clear tray. At home, you fill this tray with the lower-concentration whitening gel we provide. The tray is usually worn overnight, or for a few hours during the day, for about 1 week. This method is gentle, and you achieve a long-lasting result gradually.

Frequently Asked Questions — Oral Hygiene & Teeth Whitening

Does tartar removal hurt?

For most patients it is not painful — they mostly just feel a vibration. If your gums are very inflamed or your tooth necks are sensitive, you can ask for anaesthesia in the form of a gel or an injection.

How long does the dental hygiene treatment take?

It usually takes 45-60 minutes, depending on the amount of staining and tartar.

How often should tartar be removed?

In general, every six months. For smokers, patients wearing braces or those with implants, every 3-4 months is recommended.

Does ultrasonic cleaning or air polishing damage the enamel?

No. Professional instruments only remove the deposits and do not harm the hard tissue of the tooth enamel.

My gums bleed when I brush my teeth. Should I have my tartar removed?

Yes — bleeding is a sign of inflammation, most often caused by plaque and tartar. After the cleaning, the bleeding usually stops within a few days.

Will my teeth be whiter after the oral hygiene treatment?

Yes — by removing the yellowish-brown staining, your teeth regain their original, natural colour. If you would like an even lighter shade, we recommend chemical teeth whitening.

Does teeth whitening damage the tooth enamel?

No. At the Foxxi Dental Clinic we work exclusively with premium, clinically tested materials. The whitening agent does not thin or etch the enamel — it merely oxidises (decolourises) the pigments within the tooth structure.

Is teeth whitening painful?

The procedure itself is not painful, but during the treatment and for 1-2 days afterwards you may experience sensitivity to hot and cold or a mild "twinge". This is completely normal and temporary, and can be quickly relieved with fluoride toothpaste or a desensitising varnish.

Does the whitening agent also whiten fillings and restorations?

No, the whitening gel only works on natural tooth tissue. The colour of fillings, crowns and bridges remains unchanged. If fillings in the front teeth need replacing or a new restoration is planned, it is always worth whitening beforehand and matching the new restorations to the new, lighter shade.

Which should I choose: at-home or in-office teeth whitening?

If you want fast, immediate results without having to deal with it for days, the in-office option is the best choice for you. If you would rather whiten comfortably, at your own pace, we recommend the at-home option. Our dental hygienists will help you decide!

How long will my teeth stay white after whitening?

This largely depends on your lifestyle. With regular coffee, tea or red wine consumption and smoking, your teeth may darken again sooner. As a rule, the result lasts 1-3 years, and you can preserve it for a long time with thorough oral hygiene at home and in-office tartar removal every six months.

Can I eat right after the hygiene or whitening treatment?

After tartar removal it is best to wait 1 hour. After teeth whitening, however, the rule is stricter: you must follow the so-called "white diet" for 48 hours. Avoid all staining foods and drinks (coffee, tea, cola, beetroot, dishes with paprika, soy sauce) as well as smoking.

Why does my breath smell bad even though I brush my teeth?

Bad breath is often caused by decaying food debris trapped between the teeth or by tartar. Professional cleaning helps with this. In many cases, stomach problems may also be the underlying cause.

Do you recommend an electric or a manual toothbrush?

You can brush well with both, but electric toothbrushes generally make thorough cleaning easier. Our hygienist will help you choose.

Can scrubbing with baking soda at home replace the treatment?

No — in fact, it is downright harmful! The coarse particles of baking soda scratch the enamel, which later causes even more staining and tooth sensitivity. Leave both the cleaning and the whitening to a professional!
