Oral Surgery

Gentle solutions in expert hands

Pain-free tooth extraction and wisdom tooth surgery.

At Foxxi Dental Clinic, the word "extraction" is not taboo, but it is always the very last resort. Our primary goal is to save your teeth — wherever possible, we use aesthetic tooth-preserving treatment or root canal treatment instead of extraction. However, there are situations – such as a tooth damaged beyond saving, a wisdom tooth growing in the wrong direction, or orthodontic reasons – when surgical intervention is unavoidable. In these cases, we use the gentlest techniques and effective anaesthesia so that you get through the treatment with as little discomfort as possible.

When is oral surgery needed?

  • Tooth extraction: When decay or fracture of the tooth is so extensive that it cannot be restored with a filling/crown.
  • Wisdom tooth removal: When it causes inflammation, presses against the other teeth, or has no room to erupt. During healing, a professional oral hygiene treatment is recommended.
  • Apicoectomy (root tip resection): Surgical removal of inflammation at the root tip in order to save the tooth.
  • Lip and tongue tie correction: If a tight tongue tie hinders speech, or the lip tie causes a gap between the teeth, we release it with a quick, pain-free procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions — Oral Surgery

Will the extraction hurt?

No. With modern anaesthetics, pain can be completely eliminated. You may only feel pressure or pulling, but no sharp pain.

How long does wisdom tooth surgery take?

Depending on the complexity of the case, it can take from 20 minutes up to an hour. Based on the CBCT scan, we can see the level of difficulty in advance.

What should I do after a tooth extraction?

Do not rinse or suck on the wound for 24 hours (so that the blood clot stays in place). Applying a cold compress (icing) from the outside is recommended to reduce swelling.

When can I eat after a tooth extraction?

As soon as the anaesthetic wears off. Dairy products, foods with small seeds and hot foods should be avoided for a few days.

Do I need to take antibiotics?

Usually not for a simple extraction. In the case of an inflamed tooth or a more complex surgery, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to prevent complications.

Can I smoke after the procedure?

Strictly forbidden for at least 2-3 days! Tobacco smoke impairs wound healing and can cause painful inflammation (alveolitis, also known as dry socket).

How much will my face swell?

After wisdom tooth surgery, swelling can peak on days 2-3, which is natural. Icing and medication will help.

Will a hole remain where the tooth was extracted?

Over a few months, the bone and gum tissue completely fill in the site of the removed tooth. In the case of a dental implant, however, we do not wait that long — we replace the missing tooth at the right time.

Can I remove the stitches myself?

Absolutely not. Suture removal is a pain-free, 1-minute follow-up appointment that we carry out 7-10 days after the surgery. (There are also dissolvable sutures — your doctor will inform you about this.)

Can I drive after oral surgery?

After local anaesthesia, yes — although due to the stress involved, we recommend arriving with a companion.
